You built a website, maybe spent good money on it — and yet when you search for what you do, your business is nowhere on Google. It's one of the most common frustrations we hear from Pakistani business owners. The good news: the reasons are usually predictable, and most are fixable. Here are the big ones, and what to do about each.
1. Your site has no keywords customers actually search
Google ranks pages for the words on them. If your website talks about your business in vague, branded language but never uses the phrases customers type — "tile supplier in Lahore," "best biryani in Karachi," "kids dentist near me" — Google has nothing to match you against.
Fix: research the real terms your customers use and work them naturally into your page titles, headings, and content. Create dedicated pages for your main services and locations rather than cramming everything onto the homepage.
2. Your website is too slow — especially on mobile
Most Pakistani traffic is on phones, often on patchy mobile data. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load, visitors leave and Google takes note. Speed is a ranking factor and a conversion factor at once.
Fix: compress images, remove heavy scripts, use reliable hosting, and test on a real phone on mobile data — not just your office wifi. (We recently rebuilt our own asset loading for exactly this reason.)
3. You have thin or duplicate content
A handful of pages with a few lines each gives Google little to rank. Worse, copying the same text across multiple pages (or from other sites) actively hurts you.
Fix: publish genuinely useful, original content that answers the questions your customers ask. A regularly updated blog signals to Google that your site is active and authoritative — which is part of why this article exists.
4. You're ignoring local SEO
For most Pakistani businesses, the highest-value searches are local: "near me," or your service plus your city. If you haven't claimed and optimised your Google Business Profile, you're invisible in the map results where ready-to-buy customers look first.
Fix: claim your Google Business Profile, fill it out completely, add photos, keep your name/address/phone consistent everywhere, and gather genuine reviews. Our guide to local SEO in Pakistan walks through this step by step.
5. No other sites link to you
Backlinks — links from other reputable websites — are one of Google's strongest trust signals. A brand-new site with zero links has little authority to rank on competitive terms.
Fix: earn links the safe way through useful content, local directories, partnerships, and PR. Avoid cheap "buy 10,000 backlinks" offers — those get sites penalised, not promoted.
6. Technical problems are blocking Google
Sometimes the content is fine but the site is quietly telling Google to stay away — accidental "noindex" tags, a blocked robots.txt, broken links, no sitemap, or messy site structure.
Fix: run a technical audit. Make sure your important pages are indexable, submit a sitemap in Google Search Console, fix broken links, and give the site a clean, logical structure.
7. You're impatient — SEO takes time
Sometimes nothing is "wrong" — it's just early. SEO compounds over months. A site that's only weeks old, doing the right things, simply hasn't had time to climb yet.
Fix: keep doing the fundamentals consistently. Expect early movement in three to four months and stronger gains from six months on.
The bottom line
If you're not ranking, it's almost always one or more of these: the wrong (or no) keywords, a slow site, thin content, no local SEO, no backlinks, technical blocks, or simply too little time. Work through them in order and rankings follow.
